Kyle Shaver is the owner and primary
craftsman for Shaver Leather. Although he works full time in the medical field,
leather craft has always been a part of his life. He began doing leatherwork
as a child, with his father and in 4-H. For many years, the hobby focused on creating belts, wallets, bible covers and other
similar items. In May 1999, this hobby became a business when a fly fishing
guide approached Kyle about making him a leather fly rod case. Together they
worked out a design that was functional and beautiful. In the following years,
Kyle attended several outdoor expos to feature these handcrafted leather products. As
a result of interest and demand, Shaver Leather was created. Since then, Kyle
has been improving designs, trying new patterns, and expanding the products offered.
Every project starts with raw unfinished, natural colored leather.
Each piece is completely cut, tooled, colored, and assembled by hand. Shaver
Leather does not use any machine stamps or stitching for the main components of the pieces.
Because of the variability in leather tanning, each final product is different than every other, even if the process
of creating them is very similar.
